![]() Background A state agency customer has initially set up its small network in their small closet datacenters across the state. The small network switch and UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) have been mounted into a 4U BHL MiniRaQ(TM). The customer was pleased with the set up as it stood. The introduction of VoIP system has come about in the agency and the customer was looking to implement this technology in its present IDF (Intermediate Distribution Frame) sites. Customer has the additional need of limiting access to this equipment. Challenges The move to VoIP has brought with it a change to a bigger Cisco network switch and addition of the extra battery pack for longer runtime. All the new extras could not fit into the present 4U BHL MiniRaQ(TM) so the customer was challenged by how to expand while keeping the same pristine system set up. Additionally, many people have access to this small closet datacenter. Solution The customer has purchased just the additional 8U side-panels for BHL MiniRaQ(TM) which offered the additional space required for the new equipment related to VoIP system. The change from 4U to 8U took only few minutes as the 4U panels were easily removed and the new 8U just as easily attached. The result ended up being quick change with minor roadblocks and addition of VoIP system to satisfy new customer needs. Then by adding the secure options (bottom fan with front panel and locking hood), this customer is assured that access to their equipment is limited to selected administrators. |
